How a repair works

Every repair starts with an email to info@node29.net or the booking form below. Repair site addresses are sent with the RMA, so nothing ships before the job is set up.

  1. EmailSend the model, what failed and how many units.
  2. Quote and RMANODE29 replies with a quote, an RMA number and the repair site to ship to.
  3. ShipSend the whole machine, or only the part you know has failed.
  4. DiagnoseThe fault is confirmed on the bench. No work starts until the cost is approved.
  5. Repair and testA 20-minute run on a test fixture, four checks.
  6. ReturnMost repairs ship back within 48 hours of arrival, with a 7-day DOA.

Diagnosis before parts

An error code tells you where to look, not what to replace. The three faults that reach the bench most often each start with ruling out the parts around the board.

Hashboards stacked on ASIC repair floor
  • Overheating or protection modeFans, airflow and heatsink contact are checked first. Many of these boards are not faulty at all.
  • Board not detectedThe ribbon cable and the control board are ruled out on a single-board test fixture before the hashboard is opened up.
  • Missing chips or low hashrateTraced to the failed chip, a short, or a bad solder joint on the signal path, then fixed by micro-soldering or chip replacement.
How to decide between repair and replacement

When a replacement board makes more sense

Boards that have run in humid conditions for a long time often show corrosion across many chips. Even when these boards can be brought back, they rarely stay stable, and the repair cost plus the risk of a second failure usually outweighs a replacement.

You will be told this at the diagnosis stage, before any repair cost is incurred. A compatible replacement board can be quoted on the same request.

Control boards, power supplies and on-site repair

Hashboards are most of the bench work, but not all of it. Control boards and power supplies are diagnosed and quoted the same way, and large sites can have the work done on their own floor.

Power supply repair

APW9, APW12 and APW17, single units or batches. Each supply is rail tested, capacitors replaced and load tested before return. For a single unit, round-trip freight plus repair often comes close to the price of a new supply; NODE29 points this out at quote stage and the choice stays with you.

On-site repair for 1,000+ machines

For sites running 1,000 machines or more, technicians, tools and test fixtures come to your floor, so boards never leave the building. Scope, duration and staffing differ at every site, so this is quoted case by case.

What to include when you book

Ship a single part only when you know it is the part that failed. If the fault is unclear, send the whole machine: a hashboard that turns out to be fine still costs freight both ways, and time.

  • Miner modelFor example S19j Pro, not just S19
  • Label photoOf the machine or part, showing its version and serial number
  • What is being sent, and how manyWhole machines, hashboards, control boards or power supplies. No minimum quantity
  • Symptoms and error codesWhat the miner shows, and since when
  • Kernel log, if availableSaves time locating the fault

Before you ship a unit

Yes. Email info@node29.net with the model, what failed and how many units. NODE29 replies with a quote, an RMA number and the repair site to ship to.

1,000 machines on one site. Below that, shipping units to a NODE29 repair site is faster and cheaper than moving a crew and its test fixtures.

Case by case. Site size, models, how many units are down and how long the crew needs to stay all change the price, so NODE29 quotes after a call. Email info@node29.net with the site details.

Bitmain Antminer (S17 through S21), MicroBT Whatsminer and Canaan Avalon. For less common machines and models, email info@node29.net with the model before shipping.

A quote comes back by email before anything ships. The fault is then confirmed on the bench, and nothing is repaired until the cost is approved.

The unit is returned, or NODE29 quotes a replacement part. There is no repair charge for a repair that did not happen.

Send a single part only when you know it is the part that failed. If the fault is unclear, send the whole machine. A hashboard that turns out to be fine still costs freight both ways, and time.

Every repair carries a 7-day DOA. If a repaired unit fails within 7 days of delivery, send it back and it is repaired free of charge. A written diagnostic report is available on request.
