What Is Hashprice? How to Read It and Use It for Fleet Decisions

Hashprice is the one number that tells you what your hashrate is worth today. It rolls bitcoin’s price, network difficulty, the block reward and transaction fees into a single figure: the revenue one unit of hashrate earns per day.

If you run miners, it is the quickest way to answer practical questions. Should idle machines go back on? Is a hosting quote worth signing? How much is a used miner really worth?

The definition

Hashprice is usually quoted per petahash per day (PH/s/day), sometimes per terahash. It comes in two forms:

  • BTC hashprice: how much bitcoin 1 PH/s earns per day. It moves with difficulty, the block reward and fees, but not with bitcoin’s price.
  • USD hashprice: the same figure converted to dollars. It also moves with bitcoin’s price, so it is the one to compare with your power bill.

How it is calculated

BTC hashprice ≈ (block reward + average fees per block) × 144 blocks ÷ network hashrate in PH/s

With a 3.125 BTC block reward and fees left out, the network pays about 450 BTC a day. Spread over roughly 950,000 PH/s of network hashrate, that is about 0.00047 BTC per PH/s per day. At a bitcoin price of about $83,000, the USD hashprice works out near $39–40/PH/day, which is close to what Hashrate Index reported at the end of September 2026.

Four things move it:

  • Bitcoin price moves USD hashprice one for one.
  • Network hashrate and difficulty move it the other way: 10% more hashrate means about 10% less revenue for each machine.
  • Transaction fees add to it, sometimes sharply during busy periods.
  • The halving cuts the reward part in half every four years — see Bitcoin Halving and Miner Economics.

Comparing hashprice with your costs

Hashprice is revenue. To see whether a machine makes money, put it next to the power cost of the same unit of hashrate:

Power cost per PH/day = J/TH × 24 × power price ($/kWh)

Efficiency $0.035/kWh $0.05/kWh $0.065/kWh
34 J/TH $28.56 $40.80 $53.04
21.5 J/TH $18.06 $25.80 $33.54
17.5 J/TH $14.70 $21.00 $27.30
13.5 J/TH $11.34 $16.20 $21.06

Power cost per PH/s per day. With hashprice near $40, a 17.5 J/TH machine on $0.05 power keeps about $19 of every $40 it earns before other costs; a 34 J/TH machine on the same power is already underwater. For the same comparison expressed as a bitcoin price, see our shutdown price table.

Using it for real decisions

  • Restarting idle machines. When hashprice clears a model’s power cost with room for hosting and repairs, it is worth turning back on. Check the hardware first — see What to Check Before Restarting Idle Miners.
  • Hosting quotes. Convert the hosting rate into cost per PH/day for the exact model you would send, then compare it with hashprice. A rate that works for a 13.5 J/TH machine can lose money on a 21.5 J/TH one.
  • Tuning. When hashprice is high, extra hashrate from overclocking pays. When it is low, efficiency matters more and undervolting often wins — see Overclocking vs Undervolting.
  • Valuing used machines. A used miner is worth roughly the margin it can still earn before it reaches its shutdown price. Run the numbers at today’s hashprice, then again at a lower one.
  • Valuing downtime. A machine down for a week costs seven days of hashprice. At $40/PH/day, a 200 TH unit loses about $56 a week, before the repair bill — see Cheap Part, Expensive Downtime.

Where to find it

Your pool dashboard shows what your own machines actually earn per unit of hashrate, which is the most accurate figure for your fleet. For the network-wide number and its history, Hashrate Index publishes hashprice in both USD and BTC, along with forward prices for the months ahead.
